Congratulations to Mary on being the winner of the First Annual Tonganoxie Kansas Reads Kansas Photo Contest. The response we have gotten on this particular picture has been amazing.

There are also lots of other wonderful pictures and we invite everyone to stop into the library and check them out. We will have them up for a couple of weeks.

Mary’s picture will be framed and displayed here at the library.

See you at your library!

Books on Wheels!

Homebound Delivery
Is there someone in your circle of friends who loves to read but can no longer visit the library due to physical limitations?

Homebound service is available to Tonganoxie residents of any age. This free service offers home delivery of books in large print or regular print, music CD’s, or recorded books on cassette or CD. Visits are made every four weeks to homes and retirement communities to deliver requested materials. Specific authors and titles may be requested or library staff can select materials based on reading preferences.
Call the library at 913-845-3281 and speak to a librarian about Homebound Services or contact us by email at director@tonganoxielibrary.org.  A library card application will be mailed to you or staff will help you complete the application over the phone.

The Computer Café is now open!

What is a Computer Café? Well, if you happen into the library on a Monday morning from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm you will see a small group of people sitting in front of laptops learning all kinds of things about how to use computers.  This service has been recently enhanced with the purchase of additional library laptops.
How does the Computer Cafe work? The reason the library decided to call it a Café was that we thought that the people who attended the café should be in charge of what they learn, instead of us telling them what they need to learn.

Here is how it works: When you first come in I introduce myself to you and welcome you to the café. Then I ask if you would like a cup of coffee. (Caution: I make really strong coffee!) I then ask you what it is you hope to learn about in the café, and then we set about figuring out the best way for you to learn about it. The next time you show up I will do my best to make sure I either have a book about what you wish to learn, or I will have a list of resources that you will hopefully find handy.

Are there weekly specials at the Computer Café? Yes! Each week we will discuss some aspect of technology that I find interesting, or that I feel everyone should know. These mini-tutorials usually take about 15 minutes.

I look forward to seeing you next Monday at the Computer Café. Make sure to call ahead as seating is limited to the number of laptops we have on hand, which is currently five. However, if you have your own laptop you are encouraged to bring that along.

See you at your library!
